While I lived in New York from 1995 to 1998, our paths had never crossed. Leslie and I met virtually in 1998 when were both working on Creative Time’s annual Day Without Art Initiative (I’d moved to Montreal a few months earlier). We talked on the phone and I remember thinking that if we were in the same city, we would be fast friends. I was thrilled when she moved to San Francisco and I had the opportunity to work with her and become her friend.

charmed

Do little girls still have charm bracelets? I had one. It wasn’t overly populated with mementos, but I enjoyed how each charm represented some moment in time. Alas, the bracelet disappeared at some point in the distant past, along with my skates and those odd objects that go missing with every move.

I’ve harbored a secret desire to start afresh, building out a bracelet that documents bits and pieces of my life. Lucky for me (though not so lucky for my wallet), the new Bloomingdale’s mall downtown includes a charm store and within thirty minutes, I’d gathered together fourteen charms that somewhat cover the last forty-three years of my life.

i’ve had better months

Hormones are a bitch. My doctor continues to tinker with the amount of my daily thyroid horomone replacement, with the dose slowly being lowered over the last thirteen months. What had once been too much now feels too little and I’m convinced that I’ve jumped aboard a bullet train:

“Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for riding the Land ‘O Weepy Express. Crazy is our final stop. Please be sure to look around you as you exit the train and gather all of your personal belongings.”
