My partner in crime (3rd Anniversary)

We were married three years ago today on Tank Hill not far from our home in Cole Valley. I treasure every day that we’ve spent together through all of our adventures.

Happy Anniversary, baby! I love you.

european tv is weird

Berlin: Germans watch Hogan’s Heroes dubbed into German. I thought for a moment that my head would explode from the cacophony of thought this produced, but I was able to pull back from the abyss. I merely twittered, but Bradley had the smarts to flickr the moment.

Paris: From what I’ve heard in the media, I expected Al Jazeera would all flag burning all the time. Alas, it’s just as boring C-SPAN, but prettier what with all the Arabic script.

London: Television in the United Kingdom is all about taking old, dumpy houses and making them fabulous, or rather “fabulous.” Has anyone determined when they’ll run out of old, dumpy houses to convert? My guess is some time in 2012.

I’m permanently scarred from the show where a seemingly nice couple turn a beautiful inn into a “fantasy inn.” By fantasy, they mean something that I can only describe as The Magic Kingdom out on the town with her gal pals, dons a super thick pair of beer goggles and has a one night stand with Thomas Kinkade only to give birth nine months later to some demon child (aka the fantasy inn).

When it’s not about dumpy houses, it’s nature programs that feature spit screen views of beauty on the left and baby animals eating their siblings on the other. Really.

God bless Direct TV and our dual tuner TiVo.

Are you feeling lucky?

If you shoot film, I want to send you a roll of 35mm Lucky brand film. There’s more poop about this here.

Back story: Years ago, I read about something, somewhere online called Lucky brand film.

A favourite of the lomorati, it’s known for it’s fabulous colour and varied quality control. My search foo proved less than stellar and it wasn’t until a couple of months ago that I came across a possible source via eBay. I was thinking 50 rolls, but this wasn’t worthwhile for the seller who would have to send “an employee his warehouse in China” to retrieve it.*

On a whim, I purchased 250 rolls of expired 35mm film at a buck a pop. Yes, 250. I wasn’t going to confess the grandeur of my stupidity, but in for a penny, in for a pound. Of all the vices I might have, I don’t think amassing a large quantity of (expired) film from halfway around the world is all that bad. Maybe not the smartest thing I’ve done, but certainly not the stupidest.

Film (with chihuahua for scale)

The film arrived earlier this week and I now find myself the owner of lots and lots of film. What does one do with excess? Turn it into a project.

I’m looking for 100 good homes for rolls of my film. I will send you a roll. What you do with it after that is up to you aside from sharing a photo or two from the roll in my group. I’ll cover the cost of mailing it to you, but you’ll need to pick up the tab on developing the roll and getting that sucker into some digital format that can be uploaded to Flickr (that photosharing site where I spend my days).

What say you? Are you game? I hope so. I’d very much like to see the world through your eyes.

* Warehouse in China? I full expect to become the story arc in some future season of The Wire.
