What a year looks like
I began 2008 with a project not knowing that Polaroid would announce in February that they were ceasing production of their instant print films. While I had a few packs of film, I (like many others) stockpiled what I could. In the end, I had enough film, but the scarcity changed how I thought about the project.
The majority of Polaroid 366 days were captured in one shot. A few days required two for a "more better" exposure and very seldomly, three (mostly if I stumbled across "far superior" subject matter.
It’s unlikely that I’ll be able to find or afford such a quantity of film again for another such project. I really do miss the challenge of a photo a day. Granted, I could undertake it with another camera, but I just don’t think it will be the same.
I finished 2008 with sixteen packs of film left. George now has four (Merry Christmas!) and the remaining twelve are sequestered at the bottom of my film box.
Every fine meal has "leftovers" and I’ve a few Polaroids that I’ve stashed away. I’m going to see if I can group them in diptychs and share them over the next few weeks. Otherwise, I’m working through (in my head) what a book of Polaroid 366 might look like. Above is what a year of Polaroid looks like.
The Rink
Every winter, my brother-in-law, Owen and his neighbour Steve build an small ice rink that spans their two front yards. This year, the rink is 46′ long and with new boards, beautiful to behold.
Every child that I spied zipping around the ice wore a helmet, whether they were playing hockey or not. My nephew has different helmets for hockey, down hill skiing and biking.
I don’t think I had a helmet for any of those activities when I was young. You know, back in the dark ages.

Polaroid 366: the end
Funny that the year I decided to take on a Polaroid a day project, is the year that the company announces that they’re going to cease production of their instant film — boo!
Well, I took my 366th photograph in -20° celsius temperature last week while visiting my sister and her family in Ottawa for New Years. It was a far cry from the pleasant weather and the Air Stream that ushered in 2008.
