What’s in my Epiphanie camera bag: New York
My first thought when packing for any trip is “what cameras should I bring?” The location and length of any adventure away from Casa Chawazek can impact what ends up in my bag for the duration. Here’s what my current, rather brief trip to New York looks like. Sadly, it’s far too cold outside for shooting with Impossible film It’s frustrating, as their new PX680 is glorious.
A: Light shielding sleeves made from construction paper for Impossible Project film for use when shooting outdoors. Sadly, it’s been too cold to shoot outdoors this trip. What’s with the cold?
B: This is a lovely RGB striped strap that came with the Kodak Champ (Kodak’s failed instant film endeavour). Ellen sent me the camera as a gift and I repurposed the strap.
C: Lumix GF1 with Wanderlust Pinwide pinhole body cap.
Derek (best husband ever) gave me the Lumix GF1 last year for my birthday. I’m a big fan of this little powerhouse. It’s "usual" lens is the pancake whatchmecallit.
I’m currently enthralled with the Pinwide pinhole body back by Wanderlust that I backed last year in Kickstarter. I’ve never been all that enamoured with other digital pinhole body caps, but I’m in love with this one. You can see the photos that I’ve taken with it here.
D: iPhone head phones. I’ve never found another brand that I like as much as the ones that come with the iPhone.
E: Small metric tape meaure. You know, for just in case.
F: Moleskine calendar. I like writing things down.
G: Left: Muji black pen (these are my favourite non-fountain pens. I always pick up a handful when I’m near a Muji
Middle: TWSBI 530 fountain pen, medium knib with violet ink.
Right: Palamino Blackwing pencil with pencil cap (I blame Caterina and Clive for my current obsession with these pencils)
H: Left: Smith’s Rosebud Salve
Right: Nars "Roman Holiday" Velvet Matte lip pencil (I don’t wear it all that much, but it gives me comfort to know that I can pull it together in a pinch)
I: Contax T3 that once belonged to the fabulous Bob Smith. This camera is a thing of beauty.
J: 3 rolls of Fujifilm 400H 36 exposure that I picked up at Photoworks on Market.
K: Sunglasses.
L: Small cotton handkerchief. I buy them by the dozens from a linen shop in Chinatown on Grant Avenue.
M: Impossible Project PX680 film. You should check out photos taken with it in this group.
N: Impossible Cold Clip. I’m still tucking photos into my bra to "cook", but this cool little clip has icons to let you know how the temperature is.
O: iPhone, I’m a big Audible fan and I listen to more books than music. My current "read" is "Monster Hunter International" by Larry Correia (don’t laugh).
P: Hand knitted fingerless gloves that I picked up at that market on Haight that used to be next to American Apparel. I think one of the women who worked their made them. It’s funny, because I have a another pair just like them somewhere at home.
Q: Polaroid SLR 680 (or is it the Polaroid 680 SLR — I can never remember). I picked this up last year for $20 at a stoop sale on 18th Street. We were driving by and I could see it from the car.
R: Pink wallet. I’m in a bit of wallet quandry right now. This was one I used a few years ago and have just returned to. If you have a favourite wallet that works for you, please share.
S: I had to include the bag because I love it so much. This is an black Ginger Epiphanie camera bag. I must confess that I’ve hacked the bag a little. The shoulder straps just weren’t working for me and would get in the way and catch on things. Given that I wasn’t using them, I um…. cut them off and then Sharpied the exposed edges. I have two Epiphanie bags and use one of the two every day. I was fed up with banging my cameras around in my purse and now, they ride around in comfort.
I’m not sure if including the bag in the documentation is the thing to do, but I love my Epiphanie camera bag and couldn’t leave it out.
