The High Marsh Trail

I hate confessing that in the 10 years I’ve lived in the Bay Area, I’ve taken very little advantage of the incredible hiking opportunities that are available mere minutes from our doorstep.

Last Saturday, George, Michele and I headed towards Mount Tam in search of a wee hike. In the end, the High Marsh Loop was 3.5+ hours and 6 miles of some of the most spectacular hiking I’ve ever experienced.

Not too long after we left the Cataract Trail for the High Marsh Trail, we broke out of the trees to traverse a gorgeous, grassy (and somewhat steep) hillside along a narrow path. The sky was a bright blue and yellow grass redolent in the hot sun. I think that time we took to cross the field is now in my California top 10.

The High Marsh Trail loop was quite strenuous, but well worth it. I definitely want to make a trip back to that remarkable field soon. I have a few more photos of our hike here.
